Hortus conclusus is the result of a collaboration between Peter Zumthor and Piet Oudulf. A beautifully simple example of how a limited palette can create an enriching environment. Although on approach the temporary structure is very much highlighted, as a mysterious black box surrounded by nature, it is when you get inside you feel the structure is muted placing the spotlight on the planting installation. The structure enhances the visitors’ ability to see the plants with all their detail, the black backdrop highlights the outline of even the most slender plants.
The enclosed garden is open till 16th October.
